LONGWELL GREEN     1

FRY CLUB COLTS        1

Our most important game of the season took us on the short trip to Shellards Road on a typical bumpy parks pitch against a team who were one point behind us with a game in hand

We started the game very brightly and from two good moves, Charlie Frampton found himself on goal twice and was unlucky on both occasions. Craig Andrews was playing up front with him for the absent Brad Monelle and was proving too strong for the home teams defenders. Several runs on goal just failed to score and with Kyle Curtis and Nathan Dawson proving just as effective on the wings we played the first 30 mins virtually camped in the Longwell Green half. Nathan Dawson just saw his effort go wide cutting in from the right and just as our frustration began to grow, Craig Andrews struck a sweet shot that easily beat the keeper to put us deservedly 1-0 up. We needed a second to capitalize on our domination but despite another great volley from Craig Andrews which went straight to the keeper and another effort from Charlie Frampton, we just couldn’t take advantage. The inevitable happened 5 mins before half time as an unfortunate mistake in midfield opened the ball up to a Longwell player whose speculative shot from distance just dipped under the bar and despite an heroic attempted save from Craig Francis in goal, the ball just dropped in to bring them level.

The second half wasn’t quite dominated by us as in the first as Longwell pressed forward for another goal. Time after time though our defence stood firm as James Hurrell Smith swept up and James Boulton and Michael Payne were immense in the air and with their tackles. When a cool head was needed, Craig Francis handling was excellent in goal. Going forward Danny McCarthy was picking up the second balls and both Oli Randall and Mo Bouaziz moved the play forward. From these moves we had the better of the chances during the last 20 mins of the game. Nathan Dawsons run down the right and his cross into the box just failed to connect with our strikers. Oli Randall was put through from midfield into left side of goal and he cleverly chipped the keeper with his left foot across the goal only for the ball to agonizingly brush the far post and go wide. From Charlie Framptons charge down of the Longwell Green keeper from a back pass his kick sliced straight to Craig Andrews and his shot away from the keeper just missed the near post. Twice in the final 5 mins the ball was played wide right to Craig Andrews who easily turned the full back and cut in on the keeper. His first shot was somehow saved by the keepers feet and his second right on the final whistle cannoned off the inside of the far post straight to Charlie Frampton whose follow up somehow just trickled out for a goal kick.

All in all, 2 points dropped and a very frustrating, yet pleasing afternoon. There is no doubt we dominated from start to finish against a team who were second. If we continue to play like this, getting better and better each game we will get what we deserve. Well done everyone.

Yet again every single player did his best today and it’s getting harder each week to nominate Man of the Match. However, there was one player who hasn’t played to his potential yet this season and today he improved tremendously. For this Charlie (Brad) Frampton is rewarded with the Man of the Match.
